Historical Places of cyprus

The History of Cyprus 9000 years old and most of the historical events from the start of civilization ,the stone Age, the Iron Age ,the rule of kings, the colonial Age and the immigration of people from various parts of world , the attack by Turkey in 1974 are visible in the ruins of past spread all over Cyprus.


Because of a mix of culture coming to Cyprus from various parts of world the historical monuments are also varied in nature .

Most of the history of Cyprus can be understood by visiting the historical museums of Cyprus.

You have the the prehistoric Aya Trias Bazilica in Famagusta that dates back to the 6th century A.D. A small town near Famagusta called Aphendrika that has been excavated shows historical city having rock tombs ,temple , harbor .

The Kertikli Bath visited for popular domes ,the prehistoric city called Enkomi, is situated close to the present day Enkomi a) village and dates back to the 2000s B. C.

Some of the visited historical monuments are the Famagusta historical walls, Ruins of ancient Salamis ,

Kolossi Castle ,Statue of Makarios III at the Archiepiscopal Palace in Nicosia, Kantara Castle ,Kyrenia harbor, the Anthipanitis Church, the Buffavento Castle and the Hazrat Omer Tomb.

Famagusta has many churches ,monastery and castles as well like the Latin St. George Church was constructed in the late 13th century famous for the Gothic style of architecture (the beautiful examples of the Gothic style of architecture) and also St Francis Church , Panaya Kanakaria Church , Nestorian Church, Ayios Philon Church .

Monastery are St Barnabas Monastery and the Apostolos Andreas Monastery and castles include Nitovikla Castle made in Middle Bronze Age and the Orthello Castle.

The sea shore around Famagusta has the Sea gate and the Land gate walls marked as the point from historic times to enter the cities in Cyprus.

North Nicosia has many beautiful mosques like the Haydar Pasa Mosque ,Iplik Pazari Mosque , the Sarayonu Mosque ,the Selimiye Mosque , Turunclu Mosque, the Yenicami Mosque notable for its history and porches.

In South Nicosia you find the churches as the Phaneromeni Church , Tripiotis Church , Laiki Yitonia,St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral Church and the Venetian Wall and the Famagusta Gate as the view points.
