11-07-2006 18:26 Famous Kyiv historical places threatened to be excluded from UNESCO World Heritage List
The National Commission for UNESCO Affairs sent a letter to Humanitarian Vice Prime Minister Vyacheslav Kyrylenko , threatening to exclude the Sophia Kyivska sanctionary and the Kyiv-Pecherska Laura form the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The letter contends that during 1998 to 2005 constructions with no proper permissions were performed on the territory of the Kyiv-Pecherska Laura. The National Commission for UNESCO Affairs demands to stop constructing on the territory of the sanctuary. Humanitarian Vice Prime Minister Vyacheslav Kyrylenko sent the letter to Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetskyi to require taking measures for preservation of the historical places in Kyiv.
